Could Suffering From Bulimia Have Resulted In Irritation Of Parotid Gland In Throat?
I believe I have irritated the parotid glad in my throat from throwing up just now. I have bulimia....I usually throw up weekly or monthly depending on stress. What should I do if I feel a lump in right side of my throat just under my chin? It just feels like a pressure right there. Am scared....do I need to go to emergency care?
When an individual engages in purging, they are releasing acid into their oesphagus and into their mouth. I would need to assess and review the lump you metion however it is likely an enlarged lymph node, parotid gland or salivary gland which is increases in individuals who have bulimia. This will reduce if you reduce your purging. It is unlikely cancer however a check up with your local GP may give you that extra reassurance.
If possible, may I suggest you visit your GP and seek for a referral to an Eating Disorder service? They will help you if you want to be rid of your struggle with food and provide you with medical and therapeutic support especially during times like the one you mention above.
