Could Swelling In Feet And Ankles While Being Overweight Be Due To Having Hep C And Less Intake Of Water?

My feet and ankles have been swelling up, every day seem to be gettting worse. I am overweight, need exercise, don t get enough. I froze my feet in Edmonton 25 yrs ago, and heated them up quickly by the fireplace (which I know is a no no) and probably destroyed some nerves at the bottom of my feet. Now I am paying for it. Also, I have Hep C, don t drink (very much) maybe a few glasses of Baily s after supper. Don t consume much salt, except in processed foods. Try to eat well, but don t. HELP please. Put my feet up whenever possible. Do not work outside home. 51 yrs old, female.

There are several things you can do to help with your feet and ankle swelling. Avoiding salt is good but you also should stop all processed and canned food as it is very high in sodium. Some compression stocking may also be helpful to you. Also to protect your liver, it is recommended that anyone with hepatitis C not drink any alcohol at all. Worsening liver disease can also contribute to swelling. It is best to drink at least 48 oz of water daily and no alcohol, caffeine or sodas. A diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fresh (not processed) lean meat is best.
