Hi,

Ecosprin 75/10 contains aspirin 75 mg and atorvastatin 10 mg; Ecosprin 75/20 contains a higher dose of the cholesterol part- atorvastatin. The cholesterol part of the medication is not typically associated with bleeding, it is coincidental that there bleeding with the increase in the cholesterol part of the medication. The aspirin part of the medication can be associated with bleeding, particularly in older persons.

With black stools, which mean that there is bleeding in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract (eg stomach or duodenum etc.), then her doctor may want to consider stopping medications that may make it worse eg aspirin- for a short time.

He may also want to stop any other medications that can also cause bleeding eg some pain medications (NSAIDS) eg: Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Naproxen and if the bleeding continues do bloods (full blood count, liver function tests) and imaging to take a look inside the stomach to see what is happening there.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
