Could Taking Valium Before MRI Cause Stomach Upset?

I am going to be given a Valium before my MRI. I am being treated for Benign Positional Vertigo and the MRI is the last test. Nothing has worked for the Vertigo. I get the attack of Vertigo on my back and right side. I don t want to freak out in the machine when the vertigo hits, so I have asked for the Valium. I want to know if I should eat before taking the Valium. I have never taken Valium and I don t want to have an upset stomach while in the MRI.

Hello,

Valium is not a gastric irritant. So food is not a necessity before taking it. It is an anxiolytic of the benzodiazepine and would be helpful if the vertigo/dizziness is anxiety related. There are several causes for vertigo. What treatment have you had so far
I would be interested in knowing your MRI result. I may be able to suggest some remedy for your vertigo.
Wish you good health.
Dr. Noble Zachariah.
