Could Taking Utovlan Give False Positive Pregnancy Test Results?
hi im 31 and recently took a weeks worth of utovlan to delay my period while on holiday. After waiting for my period i have taken 3 pregnancy tests, all of which were positive. I was wondering if these tablets would give a false pregnancy reading and if there would be any sideaffects to the pregnancy.
Hi, I have gone through your question. Utavlon is norethisterone which is a progesterone given to delay periods. It does not cause th e pregnancy test to become positive. If your pregnancy test is positive, then it means you are pregnant. Norethisterone is a pregnancy category X drug which means that it is teratogenic and has a high risk of congenital anomalies in fetus like spinal bifida, hydrocephalus, heart defects and masculinisation of female fetus, especially when the drug is taken in first trimester. I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that proper counselling can be done and appropriate decision can be taken. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health.
