Could The Statin Drugs Be The Reason For The Muscle Weakness And Hypoglycemia?
As a female Senior Citizen, I have recently discovered that I have the MCADD gene and many of the associated related symptoms of muscle weakness, hypoglycemia & weight gain. I am currently on statin drugs, should I stop taking these? Please respond to YYYY@YYYY Thank you.
Your query is whether the MCADD gene is the cause of your recent muscle weakness, weight gain and hypoglycemia is affecting you now. MCADD is a genetic disorder that usually affects children who have inherited the gene from both parents. You have the gene but not likely the disease. MCADD would cause low blood sugars in children that are susceptible and then they may actually die from the low blood sugar.
You are concerned that the statins you are taking may also cause your muscle weakness and weight gain. Stopping your statins may cause your cholesterol levels to increase and that would not be a good thing. I would talk with your doctor before you made any changes in your medication
Hope this helps answer your query. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us again.
