Could The High Uric Acid And Protein Levels Be Controlled Through Diet?
Hallo Dr. I am 33year old male and recently detected with 7.59 uric acid.I am a regular drinker for last 6-7 years and consume around 180ml of whisky daily.i have stooped taking high protien food but can't control my drink habit.is it safe to have 180ml daily now?
Thank you for the query. As per the history, you are a 33yrs old gentleman, a regular consumer of alcohol and recently detected with hyperuricemia (7.59). I would like to ask whether you have any family history of hyperuricemia and whether you are on any medications (like low dose aspirin), which can precipitate hyperuricemia. Purine rich diet (red meat, seafood/sea-fishes etc.)are an important cause of raised uric acid level. You have already cut down on that (as mentioned). Alcohol is another important cause. I would advise you to cut down on your alcohol intake gradually and if possible stop it (sudden stoppage is not advised). If you develop symptoms of hyperuricemia, like gout, you may need to start on medications like Febuxostat or Allopurinol. Hope this helps you out. Regards, Dr. Ayusmati Thakur
