Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could The Lumps And Distorted Vision Be Due To Exposure To Herbicides?
I apply herbicides for a living. For a number of years I injected the chemical Tordon 101 into trees for the Federal Government (U.S. Forest Service) with out any PPE's at all. The tool we used was called a Hypohatchet and as you cut the bark of an unwanted tree it injected one mil. liter of chemical into the tree. If you it the same spot twice in a row it would displace the chemical and shoot it back into your face and eyes. I started having lump issues in my limb system and now some times I get a vision issue where I see a section of my vision becomes distorted. This summer I learned that this chemical is called "agent white" and lost its EPA registration. The Forest Service gave us extra Chemical as a bonus back when we were using this stuff and to win bids against companies using wetbacks we often camped on site and did not take a bath on a regular basis. Then the chemical went off market until the process what worked out to remove the "dioxin" from the mix. I don't think this was safe and are these effects that I am feeling and having 20 25 years later related.
Dear patient, I am not sure if a herbicide u mentioned can cause lumps 20-25 years later but distortion of vision is definitely possible. Most herbicides contain organophosphorus compounds and heavy metals as their main content, due to which they tend to get deposited in skin, hair bones and other body tissues containing keratin and are discharged slowly. They also accumulate in pigment containing cells of retina, lens and the vitreous fluid, leading to distortion of vision years after such a chronic exposure. I would like to advice you to visit your ophthalmologist for a complete eye checkup and advice for any local measures that may need to be taken up.
