Could The Pain In Fingers Be A Symptom Of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I suspect my mom aged 53 has rheumatoid arthritis. Two weeks ago she complained of pain in her ring finger. The pain gradually spread to rest of the fingers in left hand and yesterday she also started developing pain in her right hand finger joints. On closer examination, couple of fingers in her left hand seems to be getting crooked. She has an appointment with a rheumatologist tomorrow. I was wondering if the condition is actually rheumatoid arthritis and if so what could I do to soothe her pain till we get to see the doctor.
