Could The Painful Swallowing Be Due To Taking Doxycycline Without Water?

Hello, I took doxycycline on Thurs night without water and slept soon after. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was choking. I believe I have esophagitis from not taking doxycycline with water and sleeping right away. The painful swallowing and chest pain was worse the last couple of days but seems to be slightly less now. Will it get better if I wait it out and how long will it take? Should I stop taking doxycycline?

HI
Thanks for posting your query to HCM .

Very sorry to say but you have done exactly opposite to what has to be done while taking Doxycycline . I advise my patients to take Doxy with plenty of water and not to lay down upto 45 minutes after taking it .

Doxy can cause esophageal ulcers if taken and immediately laid down . I think you also might be having esophageal ulcer . I advise you avoid hot and spicy food .

Also take Xylocaine Viscus 10ml mixed in 10ml water 3 times a day . You can continue Doxy but take it as I advised above .
