Could The Persistent Change In My Stool Smell Be A Sign Of A Larger Issue?
Hello, I ve noticed a change in the smell of my stool for the past three weeks. I have never had my stool smell like this before. It smells like homemade kimchi which I eat occasionally, about 3 days a week, yet my stools still have the same unpleasant smell every day. There hasn t been a significant change in my diet for a long time. Recently, I have been trying to limit my dairy intake, since I am lactose-intolerant, and increase my intake of other forms of probiotics, but nothing seems to be changing. I am 22 and I eat a moderately healthy and normal diet with varied fruits and vegetables but also snacks too. I am wondering how to get rid of this smell and if this smell is a cause of a larger concern.
Kimchi is a healthy food due to its probiotic content, vitamins, and fiber. Digestive problems can occur when there are some specific sensitivities or allergies to ingredients used in kimchi. Kimchi often contains garlic, chili peppers, and other spices, which can be difficult for some people to digest and may lead to gas or an upset stomach or indigestion this leading to odor in stool.
Kimchi contains high sulfur containing ingredients (like garlic, onions, and cruciferous vegetables), it can lead to more odorous stools. Consume fresh kimchi in moderate amount, once daily. Stay at rest, avoid stress & strenuous work. Keep yourself well hydrated. Take quality sleep at night. Your symptoms will get reduced & resolve by its own.
However, if the symptoms continue then get liver function tests, urinalysis (R/E and C/S), stool examination (R/E and C/S) and other required tests done to detect any developing liver problem, IBS, gastritis, etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
