Could The Rectal Bleeding Affect My Period And What Is The Cause Of The Bleeding?

Hi I have a question I have not had any intercourse since my last period. I am 2 weeks late and am experiencing rectal bright red bleeding every time I go to the bathroom... I took a pregnancy test and it was negative.. Could this rectal bleeding affect my period and what could be the cause of the bleeding?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Fresh blood seen along with the stool is a sign of a lower gastrointestinal tract bleed. Causes for such a presentstion can be many but some of the most common causes are hemorrhoids, polyps, divertivulosis, ulcers, chronic conditions like irritable bowel symdrome, etc. A further evaluation of symptoms will be required with a DRE (digital rectal examination) and even a colonoscopy if required. Please meet your doctor for the same.

There are many causes for a delay in periods and infections, bleeding in your case can contribute to such a presentation.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
