Could The Redness, Tenderness And Swelling Indicate An Infection?

Hit knuckle above proximal interphalangeql joint on middle finger and cut it open. Not bleeding and cut is closed but now seems like there is a fluid build up or something. Is slightly red, little swollen and extremely tender. I'm scared it might be infected?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Infections would present with the some or all of following: increased warmth, redness, tenderness, swelling, discharge, fever.

Based on your signs of redness, tenderness and swelling,it is possible that there is an infection. It may be mild and require only topical antibiotics but your doctor would be in the best position to determine if there is an infection and what is the best course of treatment based on examination.

I hope this helps
