Could The Swelling In The Shin Be Due To A Deep Bruise?
my son took a direct blow to his shin today during football practice. He is able to bear weight while walking, however he s not able to run or push off, there is no discoloration and very little swelling. Do you think it could just be a deep bruise or should I take him to get an xray. He also said it is VERY tender to the touch.
Such a direct blow to the shin can cause a local hematoma which is very tender without a bony injury. This is because the skin is just over the underlying bone with very less soft tissue padding. Let him ice it, take pain killers. Give it some time some 4 or 5 days and see how it goes. If still troubling him get an X-ray. Let him walk around but not run during this period.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
