Could The Swollen And Painful Tonsils Be Due To Strep?
I have been diagnosed with Group B Strep and I'm a 19 year old woman. I am not pregnant (my period just ended last week), my tonsils have been swollen and painful since Sunday night. I was given Penicillin on Tuesday afternoon and am starting to feel better. Now I'm freaking out I'm pregnant. Is it normal for a healthy adult who isn't pregnant to get this and how?
As you have a bacterial throat infection and is commonly known as Strep throat and it is one of the most common type of infection and any individual can get it and you need not to be pregnant to get infected..
As your periods ended last week then there is no point being worried of pregnancy.
You should complete the prescribed course of medicines and do warm saline gargles for complete resolution of infection.. Along with Penicillin you should also take anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil, Aleve etc. You should suck throat lozenges with numbing agents like Cepacol to reduce pain.. You should do steam inhalation.. Avoid spicy and chilled foods and take soft diet..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
