Could The Symptoms Of Diarrhea And Dizziness Be Due To Promethazine?
My husband was prescribed Promethazine DM for bronchitis. Dosage-one tsp q 4-6 hrs. He first developed profound diarrhea and afterwards confusion, dizziness ,and poor balance. My husband is 65 y.o. and has never taken Phenergan before. Could an allergic reaction to Phenergan cause all these problems.
Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Confusion, dizziness and poor balance could be due to the side effect of phenergan. However diarrhoea does not seem to be due to phenergan. If I were his doctor, I would either reduce his dosage of phenergan or discontinue it depending on the condition for which he was prescribed these medications. However, in the case of persisting confusion, dizziness and poor balance, I would refer him to a neurologist for further work up of the condition.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
