Hi I stand on my feet at least 8 hours 4 times a week. My legs swell quite a bit especial my left leg. I use pressured socks which help some but there is still some water retention (swelling). Can you tell me what is going on and what should I do?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for writing your query After going through your query, my suggestion for you would be get following investigation done to find the cause if not done early- 1. Serum creatinine, blood urea and serum protein level 2. Examination for varicose vein's 3. Cardiac (heart) examination Just discuss with your local doctor. If there is no cause and the swelling is because of standing then - 1. Avoid constant standing (take rest after 30-45 minutes). 2. Do the ankle and knee exercises and use pressure garment Hope this helps you to overcome suffering. Take care Regards Dr.chugh http://bit.ly/drmchugh
