Could Weak Bones Cause Painful Bruise Due To Accidental Falls?

Hello. This morning I fell over and hit the inside of my wrist just below my thumb. Now there is a big bruise ( reddish brown colour ) and painful to the touch and aching. What could this be? I don t really want to go to the hospital because I broke the same wrist last march and my ankle the year before and I m afraid they will judge me! Could I have weak bones?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Big bruise could be due to rupture of microvasculature.
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
