Could Wheezing And Coughing Be Side Effects Of Taking Atenolol Tablets?
Hi, I have been taking atenolol tablets for about ten years. For about the last year,my thoart keeps feeling wheezy, which ends up with me coughing.could it be the tablets having this effect? I have been feeling breathless when I wake up in the last three days.
Yes, these can be due to side effects of atenolol. Atenolol is a beta blocker commonly prescribed in the treatment of high blood pressure and other heart disease. Its common side effects include fatigue, cold and clammy hands and feet, erectile dysfunction in males, difficulty in breathing and cough in patients with air way diseases. You are advised to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective medication and also to rule out other causes of wheezing and coughing.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
