Crown Put On Upper Tooth, Get Severe Pain On Opening Mouth. Any Thoughts?

Two and a half weeks ago I had a temporary crown put on my upper left side tooth near the back. Two days later I had two fillings put in on my lower left side. My mouth was sore from the crown and then after the freezing from fillings came out, I ve had really bad pain when I open my mouth or yawn. I have to hold my mouth shut when I yawn. I can t open my mouth more than about a half an inch without lots oh pain on my left side upper jaw area. Thoughts?

Most likely what you are experiencing is inflammation in your temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) from the injection you were given to numb the lower teeth. This happens quit often when anesthetizing for lower teeth causing pain when opening. If you are having pain in the tooth that has a temporary crown, then the bite may need to be adjusted. If that tooth is not adjusted correctly, then it will become very sore to chew. However, this would not be related to your pain you are having when opening. I recommend to my patients to take an over the counter ibuprofen for a couple of day. As long as they are not allergic. Also, warm compresses on the joint area will alleviate some of the discomfort as well.

I read your problem,as you provided the detail there are followingt possibilities-
1.Infection in the crowed tooth.
2.high points of crown/filling.
3.TMJ problem like trauma/infection.

So i will suggest you please visit an oral surgeon and get the thorough examination done and take a proper treatment done.

I read your query & would like to tell you that there are few possibilities like there could be some problem with capped tooth like there could be some infection.In case of restored teeth there might be some high point left which might lead to electric sensation.Lastly it can be due TMJ problem can be associated with trauma or some infection,i would like to ask is there an history of trauma??
For further treatment plan you need to consult your dentist & get it diagnosed.

The following could be the causes
A.It seems like a problem in your joint which connects your upper and lower jaw due to excessive opening of your mouth
2 . Temporary cap which had been cemented could have high points .. i.e you might not be able to bite completely which can lead to secondary infection if there for a longer time period.
You might need to get some intra oral x- rays clicked to confirm .
If pain is severe you can take an anti inflammatory medicine

its seems your crown is having some high points also if the crowned tooth is not restored properly it may have caused further infection.
it is advised that you make a visit to your dentist again.
