Hi..
Thanks for choosing HCM...
Dry eyes and essential
blepharospasm can be differentiated just by seeing.
Pathology is different in both..
Coming to the treatment part...
For essential blepharospasm you can take
botox injections if it is severe where you are not able to open your eyes...
These injections will be effective for few months after which you may have to repeat them depending in severity..
Dry eye treatment is actually exhaustive for the pt and even for the doctor..
Systemic cause for dry eyes should be ruled out first like Sjogren's syndrome (where you have dry eyes and
dry mouth) and
rheumatoid arthritis,lupus etc.,
Meibomian gland dysfunction is the most common cause of dry eyes..
Your doctor can prescribe anti inflammatory eye drops/oral medications, artificial tear drops, warm compresses and antibiotics which some times may have to be used for a longtime..
You can also use omega 3 fatty acid supplements which improve the quality of tears in MGD..
Dry eye treatment in case of Sjogren syndrome may be disappointing but other conditions will improve with prolonged medication..
Don't worry.. Keep using the medicines which your doctor prescribed and keep following up..
Take care..
