Dent On Top Of Cheekbone With Hard Lump Above, Painful To Touch. History Of Being Hit Hard Followed By Swollen Black Eye. Advice
Hi basically I was got on a night out and had a very swallen black eye. It was that hard of a hit My other eye started to bruse the concern I have now is basically after 3 weeks I have a dent just in the top of my cheek bone and a hard lump above it, what could it be? It is still painfully to lay on it even touch and if I Nock it slightly it bruses again can you help me please thank you
The dent in the cheek bone could be a depressed fracture resulting from a hard hit and the lump above it would be a hematoma. Hematoma's are generally tender to touch and pressure.
An xray of the involved area is necessary to rule out any bony injury.
Ice packing of the area will reduce the pain and intermittant moist heat application will help in resolution of the hematoma.
It might be interesting to know if you had experienced any open lesion or wound around this are after you were hit. This is important for a possible infection to be distinguished from a simple inflammation. In case there was an open lesion. this could be an infection. for instance an abscess that has collected over time. This hypothesis shall further be strengthened if you experience symptoms of fever. If not, this could be a simple hematoma or collection of blood after trauma. Needle aspiration with a syringe could be useful to give us an idea about the content. This and hope this helps. Wishing you the best of health.
Kind regards.
Bain LE, MD.
