Dental Bridge Replaced, Excess Saliva, Discomfort, Stomach Discomfort. Remedy?

Hi Doctor,

I had a dental work a month ago, replacing a bridge that was put some years ago. Couple of days after the doc finished the work I started developing excess saliva and general discomfort around bridge area, I can say that saliva generation laws concentrated around that area. I went back to the dentist in two weeks sInce he was gone and he denied that it could be because of the bridge . My excess saliva is not getting better, and my life has been nightmare since the dental work. I also started to develop stomach discomfort recently, I feel I swollow too much saliva and it causes stomach problems. Want to get rid of the bridge just in case. The dentist also denies That he could have damaged the nerve. Please help!

Hi dear
Thanks for asking the question

As per my my knowledge there is no connection between increase in saliva quantity and bridge work, and excessive saliva is the function of glands which are situated far from your crown (not root in case of mandible). and as you told you are feeling discomfort in stomach also so there might be some gastric problem which definitely has effect on your salivation so in my pinion please consult a medical professional for this..

Hi

Thanks for writing in.

I would like to tell you that there is no connection between fixed prosthesis & increased salivation.Rather complete denture experience increased salivation but in capping its just connected to tooth & no role of saliva.
As you mentioned about stomach discomfort,it might be due to same reason.
You need to go for check-up by general physician.

hello
I think there are 2 possibillities for these kind of problems
1,excess salivation and stomach discomfort is due to excess luting agent is placed inbetween your teeth and crown
2.psychologically your crown is a foreign particle to your mouth . so u have these excess salivation, gastritis is due to your mental stress about your dental health.

so don't worry salivation is self corrected and go to the general physician for gastritis
make yourself stress free, take foods on correct time , take water frequently

Hello,

Thanks for asking your question in healthcare forum.

You should have mentioned which type of bridge have been placed ( material)

There is no clear relationship in bridge placement & increase in salivary secretions.

This can occur only if you are sensitive to the material used for making the bridge.

Excessive salivation might be due to some other systemic condition which should be evaluated.

First of all don't panic as raised anxiety level will just add to the situation.

Follow some guidelines -

1. Drink plenty of lukewarm water specially early morning.
2. Try changing your toothpaste.
3. Use 0.2 % chlorhexidine mouth wash.
4. Avoid spicy foods

Hope this serves your purpose.
Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Increase in salivation and gastric discomfort could be due to any GIT problem or antibiotics and analgesics if prescribed to you.
Placement of dental bridge and increase in salivation have as such no relation.
I would suggest you to visit to a Physician and get a thorough checkup done.
Take lukewarm saline rinses and antiseptic mouthwash gargles to give a soothing effect.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards...
