Developed Exhaustion, Gasp For Air After Complete Hysterectomy. Prescribed Estropipate, Have Hot Flashes. Is It Hormonal Imbalance ?

Had my complete hysterectomy 8 weeks ago. I have done wonderful, until week 7 and I have developed exhaustion, having to gasp for air during the day. When I sleep It does not affect me. I was given a prescription for estropipate .75, because of my terrible hot flashes. I took them for two days and they gave me legs cramps so I went of off them. I am 51, good health. Up until my hysterectomy, I worked out 4 times a week, very active. No way could I work out now. I would die of exhaustion. I've been told I could have a hormonal imbalance, low estrogen. Driving me crazy, especially the gasping for air. Thank you..

Hi,
After hysterectomy, especially when the ovaries are removed, there is a sudden hormonal decline and as this is the induced menopause, the menopausal symptoms could be severe; in a natural menopause the body has time to adjust to the changes. Estrogen can help, but if you cannot tolerate it here are a few simple measures to control the hot flushes--increase the intake of water to at least 2-3 liters in a day, increase the intake of salads of fresh fruits and vegetables, keep your surroundings cool and comfortable, use loose well ventilated preferably cotton clothing, practice breathing exercises three times a day for 5-10 minute intervals and also do meditation. Hope this information is helpful. Take care.
