Diabetic And Has High Levels Of Potassium. What Causes Such High Levels?
Hi My 80 year old diabetic husband is now also suffering from dangerously high levels of potassium. We eat a good diet, vegetables from our garden. Graeme plays golf at least twice a week and does a lot of gardening. How come he is now suffering high potassium levels? What can I do diet-wise to help this? Cheers, Pat Watkins
Hi, If your husband has dangerously high potassium levels, he needs further investigation and tests to find the cause so that the best treatment can be started. There are many causes of a high potassium. He also needs to have his drugs reviewed as, occasionally, certain drugs can cause a high potassium. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
