Hi there,
Thank you for your question.
There are a few things that are not right in the management of your diabetes here.
The first thing is that I have almost all of my diabetic patients who have type II diabetes on metformin. I would also strongly suggest that you should be on metformin along with Gemer 1.
The main contraindication to not using metformin would be a reduced kidney function or a blood creatinine (which is used to assess kidney function) of more than 1.6.
The other main contraindication for not using metformin would be heart failure.
So if your kidney are heart are fine I would almost always use metformin.
The other thing that you need to keep in mind is that once you start on medications for diabetes you almost never stop them.
I would only ever stop medications for diabetes if the blood glucose level came down to a very low level like say to a level of 60 or 70.
Therefore I would strongly recommend that you should follow the above recommendations and keep your blood glucose levels in as normal a limit as you possibly can so that you can avoid possible longterm complications of diabetes as diabetes can affect virtually any organ system of the body.
Regards
