Diabetic, Taking Germer. Dosage ? Any Side Effects On Kidney ?
Hello Dr,I think you are doing well.
I am from Tanzania and i'm suffering from diabetes.i'm currently using germer 2 with a dosage of 3 tables perday.My question is,when should i know that,i should now reduce the dosage from 3 tablests to may be 2 or 1 or even to start using gemer 1?
I think i will be using these medicines for my lifetime,will it not going to cause kidney side efffects.

Hello,
Uncontrolled Diabetes will do more harm to the kidneys than OHA's in the long run.
You will have to monitor your blood sugar and based on that only OHA's should be adjusted accordingly.
Self adjustment of OHA's without a doctors advice may cause hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.
To prevent complications of diabetes good control and regular medication is important.

Gemer is Glimepride, It is a oral anti diabetic drug. Maximum allowed dosage is 8mg per day. So 3 tablets of germer 2 will be 6mg. Anti diabetic therapy cannot be discussed with one factor. Therapy depends on your blood glucose level and long term blood glucose should be monitored by HbA1c level. HbA1c goal is Glimepride has significance in renal problem but that is a age related factor. For elderly renal impairment can be serious issue. Do a SBGM - Self Blood Glucose Monitoring. Chart down all values, discuss with your physician for perfect solution for diabetes.
