Hello,
There are plenty of oral diabetic medicines available and all are good.
The main point is keeping your blood sugar levels under control ,irrespective of whether it is being done by a single medicine or a combination of many medicines.
Along with the medicines ou should also take complete dietary restrictions and precautions as advised by your doctor.
Avoid sugar,junk foods,colas,deep fried items,transfats etc.
You must also start doing regular aerobic exercises for 45 minutes a day.
Reduce your weight and try to be in your BMI range.
Keep a regular date with your doctor and keep your blood sugar,blood pressure and lipid profile in tight check so as to avoid various future micro as well as Macrovascular complications.
Thanks

Taking care of diet and physical exercise regularly are part of management of diabetes along with drugs.
Please take diet of 30 Kcal/kg body weight with proteins,complex carbohydrates,small amount of fats avoiding simple sugars and food with high glycemic index.
Physical exercise regularly like walking brisk for 45 to 60 min.to keep your weight to near ideal level that is BMI of 23.
Your treatment is all right with Metformin and Gliptins. what are other drugs to protect heart and kidney?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M.Forum
You have not mentioned weight that was very important in this disease.
Normal blood ( glucose or sugar) level is 70-110 mg/dl .
In your case blood sugar level is high , hence doctor advises kidneys and heart tests.
One thing is very necessary that is,
HB A 1C is a lab test that shows average level of the blood sugar over the previous 3 months in diabetic patient.
HB A 1 C level is as follow,
NORMAL=======
PRE-DIABETIC===> 5.7 % TO 6.4 %
DIABETIC======> 6.5 %
Now a days this is a good parameter to adjudge diabetes.
As far as about the control , you have to regulate your life that too very strictly.
Very hard exercises regularly.
Strict diabetic diet after the consultation of diet expert.
Medicine which you are taking is the best and drugs are adjusted according to situation of patient.
Regular urine and blood check up is necessary.
Good luck Dr. HET

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diabetes is controlled by changes in diet, activity and by the use of medication if the blood sugars are very high.
In terms of diet, when anyone ingests carbohydrates the blood sugar rises so by decreasing the amount of carbohydrates you use, you should see a decrease in your readings. Carbohydrates would be found in fruit juices, sodas, rice, pastry, pasta, bread, biscuits, potatoes and some breakfast cereals.
If you can decrease the amount by at least half then this would help.

In terms of activity,this should be increased, this would help with the blood sugars, control your blood pressure and cholesterol.

Galvus met is a good medication .It contains metformin which is a first line in most countries.

It is also good that you are on a kidney protective drug.

I hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Diabetes is due to progressive loss or destruction of beta cells in endocrinal part of pancreas.
Diabetes is a multi organ disease with involvement of almost all organs of body due to its complications.
Blood sugar both fasting and postprandial must be in controlled range.
You should remain in touch with internal medicine specialist/ endocrinologist and should go for regular check up.
In my personal opinion, you are taking absolutely appropriated treatment as Vildagliptin is best for control of sugar.
Vildagliptin inhibits destruction of available insulin and insulin works for longer time.
Reduction in weight is due to consumption of protein and fats in spite of sugar.
Kidney protection is also essential as high blood pressure and diabetes are the two most common cause of kidney derangement.
You should also follow dietary advice as suggested by your treating doctor or dietitian.
You should also perform increased physical activity.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
