Dear Sir,
There are many types of muscular dystrophies. Since your wife has onset in 40's so, many types can be ruled out.
However, i would like to see the report of het muscle
biopsy, which must have been done in order to make a diagnosis.
See, i couldn't get from your given information, that her accident and diagnosis of muscular dystrophy were at the same time or different. I mean to know whether her accident caused her CPK raised or muscular dystrophy. As, severe muscle
injury can also cause rise in CPK levels.
She has proximal
muscle weakness, as is evident from your question that she is unable to get up from knee bend position/squatting position.
Sir. unfortunately, there is no specific treatment for muscular dystrophies. But we should be sure enough that she has ,
muscle dystrophy.
As she is walking and doing her routine activities, that is agood sign.
At the same time, i would like to know, if any doctor has ever put her on
Steroids, because, steroids also cause proximal muscle weakness.
She can improve her weakness to some extent by doing
physiotherapy.
There are few evidence of some help with the use of Co-enzyme Q10, which can be given to her, once we are sure that this is muscular dystrophy.
Good Wishes for her.
Dr Anshul
