Diagnosed With Hashimotos. Prescribed High Dosage Of Vitamin D To Bring Down Calcium. Is This The Correct Treatment?

I have been diagnosed with hashimotos. Also, my calcium was high at 11.2 and my vitamin d was low at 25. My Dr prescribed high doses of vitamin d to bring down my calcium. I took 10,000 mcg of vitamin d and it did bring my calcium down to 10.2. My question is, is this the right way to bring down my calcium? Or is it just a quick fix.

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,

You are diagnosed Hashimotos usually causes hypothyroidism. You had high calcium level known as hypercalcemia but it is not treated with vitamin D on the contrary vitamin D can cause hypercalcemia. Please stop taking vitamin D 3.

Patients with asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic hypercalcemia
Adequate hydration (at least six to eight glasses of water per day) is recommended to minimize the risk of nephrolithiasis. Additional therapy depends mostly up on the cause of the hypercalcemia.

diuretics, Lithium, can aggravate high level of Calcium, please also avoid bed rest and prolonged inactivity.

Calcitonin plus saline should result in substantial reduction in serum calcium concentrations within 12 to 48 hours, bisphosphonate are effective in maintaining control of the hypercalcemia.

I would suggest to consult a Nephrologist for proper treatment.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck
