Diagnosed With Thinning On The Outside Wall Of Heart. What Is The Condition Called And Its Prognosis?

My father in-law said today that his heart doctor told him he has a thinning of the outside wall of his heart , He doesn t like to complain or talk much about this. He just said the Doctors dont recommend surgery, as it will be Very Risky. So, what is this condition called? And how much longer can we expect him to live? Also, is there any Medicine he should be taking to give some Help.

The description is not clear or detailed enough to conclude....
They must have done an ECHO - if you could get it, the report will clearly show!
Probably it is ANEURYSM - a portion of the heart muscle loses viability after a heart attack / it is replaced by thin fibrous scar tissue, which can not function like a muscle.
The location and extent of involvement, the efficiency of working (say - ejection fraction), other events like arrhythmia (irregular beats), age, co-existing diseases - are some of the many factors that will decide on further course of action. There is no specific 'medicine'.
