Diarrhea After Recovering From Glandular Fever. Common?
Hi, I was in hospital last week with jaundice and eventually received a diagnosis of glandular fever . My liver functions were affected but improving as I was discharged. I have been on bed rest since being released but over the past two nights I have had diarrhoea. Is this a common symptom of glandular fever or should I be concerned? I guess the food I have eaten since being released is richer and probably higher in fat than when I was hospital. Could this be the cause?
Glandular fever is usually caused by Epstein Barr virus and is usually self limiting or best treated with symptomatic management. Since you have developed diarrhea after dischanrge for m hospital it is most probably due to whatever things you have consumed causing intestinal infection or due to bacterial imbalance in the intestine. I would advise you the following: Take a Probiotic. Send the sample of stool and blood for tests and if there is any evidence of bacterial infection then you need a course of an antibiotic. Take plenty of oral fluids and electrolyte solution, fruit juices and coconut water.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
