Difficulty Breathing Due To Bronchitis. Swelling In The Ankle And Face. Due To Alcohol Consumption?
My husband has been having difficulty breathing for about three months now. He self diagnosed it as broncitis. In the past couple of weeks we noticed that his ankles have been swelling and this morning he woke up with his face swollen. He thinks it is from drinking alcohol last night. Could this be a side effect of drinking or something worse?
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
As your husband has difficulty in breathing, ankle swelling and puffy face, it is important to rule cardiac disease as these are the signs of Congestive cardiac failure. Alcohol can not cause swelling over the night, however chronic drinking can damage liver and subsequently causing swelling.
You are advised to take him to the doctor and get labs like, Chest Xray, ECG and LFTs.
Once disease is diagnosed, it would be easier to control it.
Hope it helps.
Take Care!
