Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
From your query i understood that you are afraid of using Haloperidol (haldol) for your son.
Symptoms experienced by your son may be due to haloperidol.
As it Haloperidol can cause stiffness, restless eye movements etc..
It is used for many psychotic conditions and neurological disorders like tics
It comes under the class of antipsychotics.
Some common side effects of haloperidol are.
Muscle stiffness
Dryness of mouth due to decrased salive
Sedation
Weight gain
Erectile dysfunction
Restlessness, weakness, confusion
Pruritus
Diarrhea

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is one of the serious and fatal side effect of haloperidol.
Features of NMS are very high fever ( hyperthermia), rigidity ( Body stiffness), Autonomic dysregulation(effect on of involuntary activities like function of heart, gastrointestinal tract)

So it is better to consult your NeuroPsychiatrist regarding switch over to other drug.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
