Difficulty In Swallowing, Lump, Swollen. Anything To Worry?
ok, every couple of days on the right side in the back of my tongue I feel like something is there when I try to swallow. I actually stuck my finger there to find a lump and it is swollen. Then later on it goes down and I don't feel it. There are other times I have trouble swallowing to the point I almost choke. Should I be concerned about this?
Hi, This may be a blocked salivary gland. I suggest you see an ENT specialist for further examination and advice. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
I understand your concern regarding swallowing. From your symptoms the lump could be related to acid reflux or it could just be psychological, a condition called Globus hystericus. But it is important to rule out any other conditions in your throat/ food pipe/ tongue causing trouble swallowing. A thorough ENT Examination will help reach a diagnosis. You may also need an Upper GI endoscopy. Hope this helps.
