Discolouration Of Upper Lips, Irregular, Not Raised, Smoker, Post Menopause

What are your thoughts about a small brown discoloration on the inside of the upper lip? color is not dark and it is located directly in the center. It does not change color when pressed on, there is some irregularity to its shape but it is not raised. The patient has had no abnormal changes to her diet but she is the occasional smoker and is post menopausal.

Hi,

The discolouration is most likely a benign lesion, the cause being either smoking or post-menopausal hormonal changes or both. However, I would still advise a visit to a dermatologist to evaluate the lesion because lip is a common site of developing oral cancer. Watch for any change in size or ulceration in the lesion.

Best wishes.
