Discomfort Below Ribs, Lower Rib Sticking Out, Tenderness. What Is This?

I'm a healthy, teenage female, and I've been feeling some discomfort under my right, lower ribs lately.
I noticed that when I laugh or sneeze, I feel a little popping in my lower ribs as well as when I do sit-ups.
Also, I realized that my lower, right rib sticks out. I can feel/see a spot where it bulges and it's tender to press on.
When I place my hands on my back just a little bit above my hips (like to rest your arms), my lower rib really sticks out.

I do play basketball, but I don't remember being hit or getting injured. It's weird.

I was wondering, what might this be?

Have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Since you are basket ball player and you are seeing little popping in lower unilateral (right side) ribs and tender and also it sticks out, there are chance of any muscular damage attached to the ribs or fracture of lower ribs or other tissue overgrawth. Put strap bandage over it now. Do not over exert. Get one xray and consult your doctor for examination and management.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Welcome to HCM.The popping would be secondary to the snapping /stretching of the ligaments and fascia of the skeletal cage, the tender spot may possibly be a little muscular tear of the intercostal muscles. The sticking out of ribs at this age is normal since you are still in the growing phase and are yet to develop fat/muscles .Use of Ibubrufen may help. You can seek the opinion of your doctor if the pain persists .
