Hello,
The reproductive system can be affected by epilepsy and it's medications, and pituitary hormone abnormalities can be encountered in patients with epilepsy.
The mechanism underlying this effect has a close relationship with the alteration of signals in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.
The
pituitary gland is responsible for releasing sex hormones, including FSH and LH, whereas the
hypothalamus indirectly controls these hormones by releasing the
gonadotropin-releasing hormone that targets receptors in the pituitary gland.
Valparin treatment does not alter the sex hormone levels in patients with partial and generalized epilepsy. On the other hand, monotherapy negatively affects
sperm count, sperm morphology, motility, and sperm functionality.
Furthermore, a decrease in the number of functional sperm is associated with an increased daily dose of Levipil.
Please go for a sperm examination. Do not unilaterally stop taking the medicine. A sudden stop can precipitate seizures. Meet your
neurologist for an alternative treatment regimen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
