Hello and welcome,
I understand your issue.
The causes of
heavy periods are hormonal disturbances, ovarian cysts, fibroids [ non cancerous uterine tumors] and cervical polyps or enlarged uterus due to excess growth of the uterine muscles and growth of uterine lining inside the muscles [ adenomyosis].
Endometrial hyperplasia is a condition where the uterine lining grows excessively. This may be due to hormonal disturbances. Another condition is
dysfunctional uterine bleeding where no cause for the bleeding is found.
So a cause needs to be established first. This can be done by blood tests and
ultrasound of the pelvis. The treatment is directed as per the cause. A
hysterectomy is the primary management only if there are big
uterine fibroid tumors. Rest of the conditions can be first attempted to be managed by using hormones or a procedure called
endometrial ablation where the uterine lining is destroyed by heat or cold.
So please discuss this with your doctor and then decide the appropriate management option.
Please do not worry and go ahead to discuss all these issues with your doctor.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
