Do Statins Cause Tightness In The Hips And Buttocks?
Hi, I ve been on statins over 20 yrs and have developed hip, buttock, thigh, calf stiffness, tightness and some pain more so at night as I m sleeping....can statins over time have contributed to this....I have had all kinds of tests and everything is ruled out....I am a 63 yr old female and this is really affecting my life. What are you thought please and thank you.
Statins are effectively used in the treatment of high blood cholesterol levels. Generally, they're well tolerated, however they may cause myopathy, liver dysfunction and stomach upset as some of the side effects.
Myopathy (muscle pain, tenderness or weakness) sometimes may result in excessive breakdown of muscle protein ('rhabdomyolysis') which may cause kidney damage.
So in view of the above, you are advised to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medicine to lower your high blood cholesterol levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
