Do Antibiotics For Tonsillitis Cause Gums To Swell And Bleed?
Hi my daughter was diagnosed with tonsiltis two days ago and i have just noticed her gums are swollen and bleeding. Is this a reaction to the antibiotics she's been given? Or is the infection getting worse.
She is 16months old and weighs 11kg.
And taking cilicaine V. 4 times daily. 4.5ml
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain Penicillin does not cause swollen gums and it can be due to either infection in gums causing Gingivitis or due to erupting teeth that is Teething process and at times swollen gums can be due to erupting tooth causing a Gingival abscess or a Pericoronal Abscess.. If I'am your treating doctor I would advise you to continue giving antibiotics and painkillers.. Do cold compresses over the gums and maintain a good oral hygiene..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
