I'm 19 years old, male, 6' 1", and do not smoke. I've had gastrointestinal symptoms for 11 months now, with an isolated incident last July. My symptoms fluctuate, but mostly include abdominal pain, passing mucus, bloating, gas, and nauseous indigestion. Last July I had a week-long bout of these symptoms, starting with diarrhea, then swinging over into severe constipation. Stools turned hard and small, with a pruney texture. This all went away, then in January of this year, the symptoms came back, again with diarrhea and indigestion. It persisted until June 2018, when I had a month almost symptom free. Then in July it came back. Then in early-September I was mostly back to normal again. I remained normal until I started a round of Ciprofloxacin a few weeks back. This Cipro came as a result of my gastroenterologist's ordered stool tests. They found Shigella and Klebsiella overgrowth, and put me on a 10 day round of Cipro. Around the seventh day I started getting constipation and abdominal pain again. It has stayed this way since. Overall, I've seen some red in my stool that looked like blood on around a dozen occassions since 2017. I have had mucus the whole time. And during my normal periods/remissions I have normal stool consistency, though the mucus persists. Labs are all normal. Inflammation markers are surprisingly normal. CBC, FOBT, C-reactive protein, Celiac, and Lactose Intolerance tests have been normal. The only abnormality is the Klebsiella and Shigella. I also went from 171 lbs in May to 166 in September, which worried me, but my GP insists this is within the normal range. I've found blood on my toilet paper many times, but I also have a very pronounced, palpable hemorrhoid. He says he doesn't suspect cancer. What does this sound like? Is this consistent with cancer? Could it be IBS? Colitis? Give me a second opinion.
