Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Medicines For Diabetes And High BP Cause Imbalance And Depression?
I take a lot of medicines and now wonder if any of them causes walking imbalance. Some of them are for manic depression and some of them are for diabetes and some of them are are for high blood pressure. I am having a hard time staying balanced and not falling down. Thank you, Mary Drake
Yes, the imbalance can occur as a side effect of medicines used in the treatment of the conditions you have. For example, if you are on Gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy, ataxia (imbalance) is a recognized side effect.
Blood pressure medication can produce a drop in blood volume and this can drop pressure on getting up and produce imbalance. In MDP, euthymic agents like carbamazepine can produce unsteadiness in walking.
So do get back to me with details of your medicines and I can help you identify the probable cause. Corrective measures can then be taken to reduce/ remove your imbalance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Noble Zachariah, Internal Medicine Specialist
