Do Medicines Taken For Heart Disease And Diabetes Cause Severe Chills?
My Mom is almost 82 and recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She is also a diabetic and takes medication for her heart as well. Lately she has been having spells where she is shivering, says she feels like there is cold running through her body. It puts her to bed most days and she covers up and gets on the heating pad. We think her medications are causing this. She sleeps well at night, feels good in the morning, then usually around 2:30-3:00 she has these spells. Today, she was having a great day until about 6:00 pm. We have recently seen her primary and diabetes doctors and all vitals and blood sugar was fine.

Do Medicines Taken For Heart Disease And Diabetes Cause Severe Chills?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Severe chills in diabetic patients can be due to infection (like urinary tract or malaria or viral infections). Hypotension or hypothermia or autonomic neuropathy with profuse sweating etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please get blood sugar, blood pressure, urine and blood examinations done and get treated accordingly. Take care.
