Do Persistent Nose Congestion And Breathing Difficulty Need Medical Attention?

I ve had a stuffy nose for over 5 weeks. Not runny, but difficult to breath. I have been using nasal spray but don t want to continue this. The past 2 days upon rising from a chair I have gotten dizzy and a little unstable on my feet. Could this be a sinus infection that needs checking out and not just a cold?

Hello,

Yes, it could be ear infection or sinusitis. Your work up can be done as follows:
- CBC
- Auscultation
- PNS x-ray

Because of enlarged turbinate also, difficult breathing can occur.

For Symptomatic management, short term steroid course of betamethasone or antihistaminic drug can be prescribed.

If CBC shows high eosinophis than Azelestin nasal spray or Allegra M like drug can be prescribed. Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
