Do Severe Tremors In The Hand Need Immediate Medical Attention?
I have ongoing nerve and muscle pain, left side only. I have spine surgery five years ago in my lumbar spine and cervical spine. I still have severe pain when lying down. Last year my fingers bilaterally started to have a purplish hue. My Dr said it was not presenting like Raynauds. Yesterday my hands were shaking, this is not associated with a particular arm hand position. The tremors are steady with random increased shaking. At what point do I contact my health care professional and is a GP okay or better to start with some sort of specialist
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, severe tremors do require immediate medical attention. It can be due to some developing neurological degenerative problem, Essential tremors or Parkinson's disease. Neglect will lead to complications. You need to visit a neurologist and get all investigations for the nerves done. Take Vitamin B12 with folic acid. Since you have pain radiating to your left side, your neurologist should refer you to a cardiologist so that you get lipid function tests and ecg done to screen out any cardiac problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
