Do Swollen Feet While Suffering From A Heart Disease Require Immediate Medical Attention?
I m asking this question on behalf of my 92 year old father. His feet are swollen up through to the knees. His heart rate is in the 90s, bp is 120 over 70. He has atreal flutter. He had been montored with a heart monitor last Thursday and Friday. No one called back to tell us that there is an emergency based on his rhythm after those two days. He is on cartia twice daily, furosimide, atenolol, and eluiquis. He had swelling of the feet increasing over the last several days, but not this badly. Is this something that can wait for a discussion with the cardiologist tomorrow? or is it urgent?
Hi
Welcome to 'Ask a doctor ' service.
I have read your question and here is my advice.
Pedal edema ( swelling of legs ) is a common with heart failure. If your father does not suffer from sever chest pain, or sever shortness of breath,then the swelling of the feet may not that emergency, and you can wait till your cardiologist see him tomorrow .
Hopes this clear your question.
I would be glad to answer anything further if you want to ask.
Regards;
Dr Rahman
