Does Asmanex HFA Cause Bone Loss In The Jaw Post Bone Grafting?
Doctor, does Asmanex HFA cause a bone lose in the jaw after implant, specially, implant with bone grafting ? In May 2015, I had implant in tooth 13 and 14 with some bone grafting and I am having a bone lose at this area only. Implant doctors beleave that I will be losing these two implants. I start taking Asmanex HFA at the end of March 2016.
Asmanex HFA contains active ingredient Mometasone that is a steroid and in case if you are taking it as a aerosol spray then it will however nt cause a direct side effect of causing bone loss or implant failure..
However it can cause an indirect side effect of increasing the chances of infection inside the oral cavity as steroid has a tendency to reduce resistance to infections..
This can increase the probability of infection inside mouth and this can inturn cause gum infection and damage to underlying bone..
This can cause implant failure..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon or an Implantologist and get proper examination done.. A deep cleaning an antibiotics can help in resolution of infection.. If there is no integration of implant to the underlying bone then unfortunately it needs to be removed...
Hope this helps..
Regards..
