Does Atorvastatin Cause Pain In The Shoulders And Fingers?

I began taking Atorvastatin (20 mg) a few days ago for elevated cholesterol. I am healthy and feel quite well. Last evening after watching a movie on TV I got up to get ready for bed and noticed my shoulder hurt. In fact, touching it was painful. By bedtime I was pretty much unable to use it and experienced quite a bit of pain. Running my fingers along the shoulder bone is painful and my painless range of motion is quite limited. Is it possible this problem is related to the Atorvastatin? I have had no previous problem with my shoulder.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you've been having some shoulder pain after starting Atorvastatin. Atorvastatin is known to cause muscle inflammation and damage, and this may be what is happening in your case.

I would ask you to stop taking the Atorvastatin and see your doctor, he could do a blood test to check for muscle damage and confirm that the cause is Atorvastatin.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
