Does Atorvastatin Interact With Metoprolol Tartrate?

I had a triple by pass in November of last year. I have been prescribed Atorvastatin 80 mg (that was just reduced to 40 mg) and Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg twice a day. I have had trouble sleeping the last month or so and am wondering if either of these medications could be the cause? email: YYYY@YYYY

Hello, Thanks for posting your query on Healthcare Magic...
* Brief Answer: no serious interactions between both drugs, you may need to shift metoprolol to morning .
*Explanation: My opinion is that ischemic heart disease is an important condition that needs good plan of management first of all anti ischemic medications such as antiplatelets and antihyperlipidemics are crucial. then regular follow ups with a cardiologist is a must to modify your treatment and see if any new findings in patient's heart condition exist. some times beta blockers if taken as a night drug can cause some trouble sleeping and even some nightmares.
I suggest my patients the following : shift beta blocker drugs to the morning.
The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion.
If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about other medicines you take , symptoms and signs of heart failure and also your blood pressure readings.
*Conclusion: I suggest you shift metoprolol to the morning nd if still problem sleeping check with your physician.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help, If not, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health.
